Joined the Indian Police Service in 1988 and was allotted to Uttar Pradesh Cadre. Has served as Chief of Police in many criminally, communally and politically sensitive districts, including the State Capital, Lucknow. Headed the prestigious Special Task Force and achieved notable successes against organized crime. Has enforced law effectively and is credited with effective control of crime. Has been commended by the Supreme Court of India for diligent enforcement of law. Credited with many initiatives which have become models adopted at the State level: • What was started by him in 1994 as 'Land Disputes Settlement Program' in Basti is implemented today as the 'Thana Diwas' by the State government. • Declaration by the State Govt. of 203 Naxal affected villages as 'Ambedkar Villages' for comprehensive socio-economic development was conceived by him. • Started the use of Mobile phones by police officers as a Virtual Private Network in Lucknow as a local initiative in December 2002, and today the more than 7000 strong VPN not only includes the police but all district and govt. officers. • Has contributed to the maturity of electronic surveillance processes, and many such processed are now part of the curriculum of the training of IPS officer trainees at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad. Has contributed to the proceedings of the Parliamentary Committee on the Information Technology Act, leading to reinforcement of the penal provisions for a more secure cyberspace. Established border outposts right on the international border of Uttar Pradesh State with Nepal in inhospitable, dense, forest terrain by shifting from as far behind as 20 km, where infrastructure development was completed in a mission mode, starting with drinking water wells, complete with infrastructure facilities. This has resulted into a strategic national advantage to neutralize maoist threats from across the border; ensuring territorial integrity of large areas hitherto insufficiently guarded; security to border population from crimes and conservation of precious wildlife and forest wealth. Has pioneered IT implementation in Central Armed Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Many projects are now successfully running: GPS based Patrol Management System, Inventory Management System, Personnel Information Management System, Intelligence Management System, Projects Management System, Sharepoint Collaborative Website among others. Has implemented Transparent Recruitment Process of police officials, including online applications, where Physical Efficiency Tests are carried out with minimal human intervention using biometrics and state of the art electronic measurements; written exams utilize unique 3-leaf OMR sheets, and the Evaluation process allows candidates to view their answer sheets online and also file objections, if any; making the whole process totally verifiable, objective and transparent. The President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service (Republic Day, 2012) ​CURRENT WORK PROFILE  Setting up a State-wide Contact Centre for the State of Uttar Pradesh with a population of 220 million for providing Police Emergency Response across the entire geographical area of 243000 sq. km. by means of dedicated 4800 Police Response Vehicles. Setting up UP Highway Police for proactive enforcement of road safety measures for reduction in road accidents. Setting up Integrated Traffic Management System and Smart City Surveillance System in 12 major cities. Improving traffic regulation, enforcement and overall traffic management in the State of Uttar Pradesh.
