Dial-100 service for police assistance

The dial 100 service of the Uttar Pradesh Police is all set to go the American way. A panel of top officials from state home and police department will soon be flying off to US to study their emergency response system (ERS) 911 and incorporate its key features in India's largest centralised Dial 100 police control call center for Uttar Pradesh coming up in Lucknow.

The group will visit San Francisco, Austin and Brooklyn during the 14-day tour to understand the different aspects relating to skills, methodology, management and training of police paraphernalia engaged to operate the ERS in Uttar Pradesh.

Led by advisor to state home department Venkat Changavalli the panel comprising principal secretary (Home) Debashish Panda, additional director general (ADG) Traffic Anil Agarwal, home secretary Kamal Saxena and inspector general (IG) Navniet Sikera will fly off to US on Friday night.

"We will study functioning of the ERS set-up in US cities and prepare a blueprint for a somewhat similar set-up in Uttar Pradesh," said ADG Traffic Anil Agarwal. With a population of a little over 300 million, US have 6,500 ERS centers managed and operated by district or county police. In UP, the plan is to replicate a similar arrangement for the entire state through a single call center at Lucknow, Agarwal said.
